Exhibitions Assistant in Minneapolis, MN

NORTHERN CLAY CENTER
This is a continuing, hourly, non-exempt, part-time position, providing support services for the major program area of exhibitions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Exhibitions
• Support Exhibitions Director with various tasks, including, but not limited to:
• Unpacking, packing, and shipping exhibition items
• Managing inventory of exhibition items
• Maintaining integrity of gallery walls and floors
• Painting exhibition galleries and pedestals
• Placing pedestals and installing exhibition items
• Lighting the exhibition space
• Dusting and maintaining exhibition gallery as needed

Salary & Qualifications

This position, at this time, is a limited tenure position, to last 14 months, beginning in April
of 2012 and ending May of 2013. Pay is dependent on qualifications, previous experience,
performance, and NCC budget.

Applicants should have a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts, or general knowledge of
the visual arts and ceramics. Strong oral communication skills are required, as is proficiency
with painting, light construction, and work with power tools. Applicants must be able to lift
and move up to 50 pounds. This position requires a flexible schedule during installation weeks.

Artist in Residence and Building Maintenance Position in Minneapolis, MN

NORTHERN CLAY CENTER
Position available early June of 2012. Application deadline is May 1, 2012.

Responsible for maintenance of Northern Clay Center’s facility. This includes cleaning, grounds maintenance,
and ordering of basic supplies. This position is a one to two-year, part-time position, which may be renewed
pending performance. Pay ranges from $9.00 to $11.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Compensation also includes partial reimbursement of health insurance costs, vacation and sick leave
(proportional to hours worked), a common studio space, kiln access, and a staff purchase discount in the sales
gallery. Qualified applicants will be eligible to teach classes at Northern Clay Center. This position
requires a flexible schedule with additional hours needed to prepare for Northern Clay Center special events.
Schedule will generally be 5 – 11 am daily, with some weekends and evenings.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The NCC Building Maintenance employee will:
• Clean all floors, sinks, bathrooms, and horizontal storage and display surfaces in all public areas of
the Center on a regular basis (the schedule to be determined in consultation with the supervisors,
with reference to the specific job tasks. The shop & exhibition display areas will be dusted by shop
personnel.)
• Remove classroom and office garbage to the dumpsters.
• Recycle cans, bottles, paper, cardboard, fluorescent tubes, etc. on a regular schedule.
• Replace lights, stock paper goods and soap in classrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen.
• Order supplies for the above-mentioned areas and others as needed and directed.
• Sweep and mop classroom spaces and aisles on a regular schedule, and do major floor, work and storage
surface cleaning between school terms.
• Mow lawns, shovel snow, and maintain exterior grounds of building. Regularly clear leaves, snow and
other problem debris from roof vents, scuppers, and gutters.
• Identify potential safety hazards and problems.
• Identify equipment needing repair, e.g., lighting, general repairs.
• Assist in the set-up of special events.
• Other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants Must:
• Have a strong background in ceramics and desire to pursue studio ceramics (a bachelor’s degree is
preferred);
• Have a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as under supervision, and must have
demonstrated organizational skills;
• Have customer service experience in a variety of settings;
• Be able to work on a flexible schedule;
• Be able to lift 75 pounds.
